"Newfoundland is taking a giant step." A new full service council will took place on October 1, 1997, Newfoundland and Labrador Regional Council of Carpenters, Millwrights and Allied Workers of The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America has taken a giant step toward reality. The potential is enormous and the timing could not have been better, particularly with the forecasted increased amount of Construction activity for Newfoundland and Labrador.
The council will represent Carpenters, Millwrights, Loggers, Industrial workers and Allied workers. Local union 579 and Local union 1009 have combined their energies to form the Regional Council sharing one united banner.
Despite some initial uneasiness and skepticism about the changes in the Brotherhood, members realized that in order to recapture the lost market share something had to be done. Eventually, streamline economics of scale and a state of the art dispatch system will free business representatives from endless administrative chores. When these chores are freed time and energy can be focused on the basics, " ORGANIZING".
"THE FUTURE BELONGS TO ORGANIZED LABOUR."
