Highlights of the Carpenters Local 579 Collective Agreement
- Rate of pay effective May 1, 2010
- Commercial $22.75 + 3% holiday + 10% + all benefits
- Industrial $24.30 + 3% holiday + 10% + all benefits
- Hiring:
Commercial – You are permitted to solicit your own job, however you must be cleared though the local union.
- Industrial – 50/50 hiring however all names must be cleared through the local union.
- Travel: If room and board is not provided the employee shall receive an allowances of $51.00 per day worked if permanent residence is outside 50km on Industrial projects and 150 km on Commercial Projects from the permanent office of the employer
- Shop Steward – Any questions or concerns should be addressed to the Shop Steward on site.
- The onus is on the member to contact the union when laid off. If this not done, your name will not be placed back on the hiring list until the date you have done so.
- Benefit Plan:
The employer shall contribute for each person hour worked to the Health and Welfare plan $1.65 while employed on a Commercial site and $1.70 while employed on an Industrial Site
A member must work with a unionized contractor and accumulate 360 hours to become in benefit. Member information cards must also be completed in order to activated your account. These cards can be obtained by contacting the union hall at (709) 364-5430.
- Pension Plan:
The employer shall contribute to the Pension Plan for all HOURS WORKED on commercial work $3.25 per hour. The employer shall contribute to the Pension Plan for all HOURS EARNED on Industrial work $4.35.
