"Our Open House was a hugh success for all ages"
The children enjoyed playing in the bouncy castle, getting their faces painted, making bird houses to take home, and "fishing" for prizes in "millwright style" as they operated a remote control overhead crane.
The adults enjoyed observing the apprenticeship competition, touring our state of the art facility, and learning from our red seal interprovincial instructors in "ASK THE EXPERT" sessions. These information sessions covered the following topics: Introduction to Lathe and Milling, Basement Development, Drywall Installation, T-Bar Ceilings, Laminate Flooring, Drywall Repair, Paint/Plaster, and Frame Scaffolding.
UBC Provincial Apprenticeship Contest
Congratulations to all apprentices who were chosen to compete in the UBC provincial apprenticeship contest. All apprentices performed with utmost professionalism and did an exceptional job demonstrating the skills of their trade. The winners of the competition were Brian McGrath, winner of the Carpentry division, Justin Gedge, winner of the Interior Systems division, and Trevor Lambert, winner of the Millwright division. We wish these apprentices all the best as they compete at the nationals being held this year in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
A sincere thank you is extended to everyone who dropped by on Saturday, June 13, 2009, to participate in our apprenticeship and open house celebrations. Congratulations to the following winners of our door prizes: Patti Thistle (Garden Swing), Mary Ford (Band Saw), Heather Griffin (Playhouse), Ms. Freeman Hunt (Cement Mixer). The college would also like to take this opportunity to thank all groups and associations for any and all donations received.
